Catskill Craftsmen has become the nation's leading manufacturer of ready-to-assemble domestic hardwood kitchen islands, carts, and work-centers. Catskill Craftsmen manufactured items are made from naturally self-sustaining, non-endangered North American hardwoods, primarily Northern Yellow Birch. Lumber is purchased from area sawmills, then dried, manufactured, and packaged on site. All sawdust, shavings and waste materials generated during the manufacturing process is converted into wood pellet fuel, and used to heat homes. Beautiful and functional, this kitchen island features fluted legs and raised panel doors and drawer face. Additional features include two towel bars, locking caster wheels, side shelves, functional drawer, open and enclosed storage, and food safe butcher block top. Domestic, solid hardwood is used for the top, legs, drawer, doors and braces. Warp-resistant veneer side and back panels allow for precisely machined parts to assemble with greater ease.

4Great island alternative!
By BarrelGunner
Great product! Our kitchen is not big enough for a regular island so this fits perfect and we can roll it out of the way when not using it. The directions are a little unclear but overall very satisfied. Nice and sturdy, great color of wood.

4Great looking cart
By Cait
I was gifted this kitchen cart for Christmas and really like it. The instructions were not super clear, mostly because there are a lot of pieces to put together, and many of the screws look the same. Also, many of the pieces are fastened with something the Catskill folks are calling a Bastion Fastener. I had a hard time getting them to fit perfectly the first time, but with patience, was able to get everything together. Once put together, the unit feels very sturdy. And the construction quality seemed top notch. Everything fit together well. I put it together on my own, but having a second person could have helped at times. The instructions tell you to dip the screws in vegetable oil before screwing them in to the wood. I definitely recommend doing that, they'll go in a LOT quieter that way. Also, it doesn't mention that you will want an electric (battery) screwdriver. I did all of the screws by hand, but I think a battery powered driver would have been a lot quicker. Overall, I think it took be about 5-6 hours to get the whole thing together.I had one small problem with the unit: the doors were slightly too wide to open independently of each other, but I called and spoke with someone at Catskill (they answered the phone quickly, and were super helpful) and they offered to send me a set of sanded down doors immediately. I ultimately decided to just sand them down on my own, but I was very impressed with their customer service.Overall: I really like the Heart of the Kitchen Island, and I'm sure that it will be an improvement in my own kitchen for many years to come.UPDATE 11/17/2013: Nearly 2 years on, and this cart is still perfect! It's held up beautifully and gets daily use in my kitchen. I'm still super pleased with the quality and durability of the cart. I recommend rubbing the surface with beeswax cream to keep the wood happy.

4High Quality
By histo
High quality product. Very steardy, but fairly difficult to put together. I have some construction knowledge (father was a contractor), but it took me over four hours to put together. It took longer to put together than to install a replacement window in my house.
