Catskill Craftsmen has become the nation's leading manufacturer of ready-to-assemble domestic hardwood kitchen islands, carts, and work-centers. Catskill Craftsmen manufactured items are made from naturally self-sustaining, non-endangered North American hardwoods, primarily Northern Yellow Birch. Lumber is purchased from area sawmills, then dried, manufactured, and packaged on site. All sawdust, shavings and waste materials generated during the manufacturing process is converted into wood pellet fuel, and used to heat homes. This sturdy, attractive cart features a wide drawer, thick lacquered top, cherry stained base, two towel bars, two slatted shelves, and locking caster wheels.

I got this for extra workspace in the kitchen and wanted it to be mobile. It's very nice looking, was easy to put together, very well made and sturdy. Although I've only had it a short while, it doesn't seem to be the type of kitchen cart that gets wobbly after using a few times. They do recommend you tighten the fittings after a few months, but they seem to be made in a way that won't loosen up. The top is very heavy and butcher-block styled, with a light poly finish-it's not bare wood. The drawer runs most of the area under the butcher block, but is very shallow, so would be appropriate for knives or hot pads, etc.

This item arrived today and I assembled it right away. This item appealed to me b/c it was the right size kitchen cart that I had been looking for. I considered building my own after months of online searching. First the "Cherry Base" actually looks better than in either of the pictures available at the time of this review. And and the top has a good weight to it, though I'm not sure this is as hard of a wood as it appears to be. The wheels are of a larger size, so rolling this around is easy. The wheels seem solid enough, but are not of the quality I was expecting based on their size. Don't misunderstand, these are not really cheap, but not high quality either. I'm considered very good with my hands and am no stranger to disassemble and assemble of all kinds of things, furniture being one of them from high quality to really poor quality. I would not consider this item to be an easy one to assemble for those who are not familiar with doing so. Most of the weight of this item is the natural-top, the base is some sort of soft wood. The draw is of typical assemblage of this level of quality: a wood-based fiber board for the bottom that fits into grooved slots on the bottoms of the draw sides, pre-finished draw front with corner blocks to screw the draw sides into, and a back, the L R and back sides almost like balsam wood - not a draw for silverware or lots of utensils (I opted to use this for kitchen towel and pot holder storage). At best I would say this item is adequate, and all and all it looks nice. I thought this item would have been of a higher quality, but after some consideration, I believe it is probably adequate for the cost. I think I now understand why so much of my research for a kitchen cart often returned items ranging from $700 to $2,000: Solid woods and quality craftsmanship carry a price tag.My three out of five rating is value for the price. I feel the base should have been made out of a more solid wood (mine actually arrived with a major crack), and for the assemble hardware and design I'd give it a 50/50; some of the hardware was good some rather cheap. I would probably not buy again, but I will not return either.Follow-up:I did a search for the manufacturer of this item to get an idea of what woods were used in the construction of this cart. Catskill craftsmen do not list this item as an offering, so I think it must be a Target exclusive. The target cart for which this review is for is a replica of one of Catskill's French Cart line which is only shown on their website as constructed of 100% solid hardwood construction and seem to have some higher quality hardware such as the casters. I found this hardwood version for about $650 after doing a google search for it. This is consistent with my review. The Target offered cart is a cheaper version of the original, the price difference is about $400. My three star rating, again, is based on what you get for the price. I'm not sure I would have been willing to part with $650 for what this cart was intended for. All and all, I would recommend buying if you have easy access to a Target so that you could easily return if item arrives damaged.

Pieces of this cart arrived damaged or broken during repeated shippings. The seller was a little slow to respond, but I eventually received everything in good condition. Assembly was fairly easy. The cart is sturdy and attractive, with quality hardware (wheels). The drawer is flimsy, however, and wouldn't stand up to heavy use. Imported from southeast Asia, contrary to the company's claim of American-made products.
