What makes this island really unique is the hidden sliding mechanism connected to the back two shaped and turned posts. This mechanism provides easy mobility and independent movement of the two posts for the expansion of the breakfast bar. Either with the breakfast bar closed or in use, this piece has a polished look by being consistently styled on both the approach and working sides. Shipped in 3 extremely large cardboard boxes...description states 120 pounds...more like 300 which believe me is WAY too much to ship in cardboard boxes!!! All packages damaged and wasn't til the very end that I pulled out the 125 pounds granite top that I realized it actually had a bashed in corner. Amazon couldn't replace just the part so sent out a whole new unit...all beat up and the top with a damaged corner!!! The construction itself was an absolute joke. The wood would have been sturdy enough but the cam locks to hold it all together might as well have been made out of tin! Most of them wouldn't even grab the screw it was supposed to lock on to and any extra oomph you put into it usually broke it. Not enough contact points to make even adding wood glue helpful at all. When I took it apart to send it back...4 screws to hold each side legs on and once removed the whole thing literally fell apart. Maybe 2 out of 12 of those cam locks held any little bit! Absolute JUNK and now an absolute nightmare to return...but that's due to the size and weight and not due to Amazon who have been very helpful. Made in China and worse than anything you would ever buy at Walmart or Kmart but for a whole heck of a lot more money.
