We put together our new island last night. Easy assembly, maybe took about 30 minutes start to finish. I should add that my husband assembled it himself, I just watched :) I am impressed with the quality of the piece, very sturdy. The rubber feet keep the piece from sliding all around the kitchen, which is nice. The paint finish is matte, and the wood finish is nicely done. The work surface is not solid butcher block, it's about an inch thick. I think that's what kept the price from being outrageous. The top of the butcher block is a bunch of small strips, kind of looks like a mosaic. It is a really nice touch! One of the side panels was a little damaged, the black paint was cracking in a few spots. I called Powell customer service, and spoke to someone within 5 minutes, who offered to send us a replacement free of charge. Refreshingly uncomplicated customer service! Assembled, the piece is the perfect height (almost exactly as high as our countertops), and size (the lower shelf holds my Kitchenaid mixer and a basket full of cookbooks.) The basket drawers are deeper and roomier than I expected. One holds my dishtowels and cloths, the other holds all my mixer attachments. The only thing I'm not crazy about are the hooks for the hanging utensils, as I keep all mine in a canister on the counter. For now, they're hanging there for looks, but I will soon be removing them - I do have pot holders hanging on one of the hooks which is more convenient. I like my utensils to be right beside the stove. This is a sturdy island, which added some much needed counter space to our kitchen, as well as makes it look "complete." I am very happy with our purchase!

I got this beautiful island, but one of the slots that holds the drawers were broken. I filled out the damage slip and tried to fax it like the damage slips says you can, but it would always say "this business is not taking faxes at this time". No matter what time of day I tried to fax, I always got this message. I thought okay, I will do the next thing the damage slip says to do, email it. I scanned the damage slip with the proof of purchase and emailed it. That has been 2 weeks ago and still have gotten no reply. I don't know if I will be getting a new slot or not. I have never been upset about damaged products or mistakes through the mail because it happens, but I do get very upset when the problem is not solved and I am ignored. If you buy this product and everything comes in tact, it is very nice, but if not, good luck.

I am amazed at how nice this butcher block looks --- it looks expensive -- it was easy to assemble -- perfect size, color, and very sturdy -- i have been looking for months for the perfect island.... and this is it! Plus it was delivered in one week! Love it!
