It was a little strange to have a $425 table delivered in two boxes! But do not hesitate. The quality is truly as excellent as in the description. I was pleased to buy an American made table and to have it be perfect. The wood is beautiful and the crafting of the table is superior. There aren't any splinters or splits. Everything is square and level. The towel bars fit well. My husband assembled the piece quickly. But it comes with very clear instructions so even a beginner could tackle it without a problem. I am really thrilled with this purchase, and I am so happy I didn't go with a lower end big box store item.

My wife was hesitant when I purchased this, thinking the extra cutting space (triple the size of our old cutting surface) wouldn't help all that much. She was immediately won over when it arrived, though, because it's pretty. I, on the other hand, am more impressed by its functionality. The extra space really dramatically changes the speed and efficiency of cutting and chopping - especially for a full dinner, but even when just cutting up a piece of fruit or something small. Since there is now a designated cutting surface in the kitchen that is always available (once you understand how to maintain the board), we find that we're cutting up small things like pieces of fruit more often - the block is always out there inviting us to cut on it.Getting the butcher block was part of an effort to cook more at home. We've managed to change our cooking habits quite a bit, and have actually paid for the block in just two months (since groceries cost less than ordering out, and we usually get more leftovers!), and we're also eating healthier as a bonus.By the way, ours did not come with any deep gouges on the underside. Both sides of the actual block part were the same (beautiful!). It was definitely very dry when it arrived, and drank up lots of oil. I also sanded it down a bit with some fine-grit paper since it was a bit rough for my liking.Recommendation - buy a board scraper. Helps with both cooking (moving stuff from block to pan) and especially cleanup.
