3cute but lacking
By ilegrl23
I have a large kitchen with minimal draw space, so a kitchen island is a perfect way to fulfill what my kitchen lacks. I bought this island because it seemed to match my kitchen well. My father and fiance decided to put it together (Two very well crafted individuals). It took both of them over 2 hours to accomplish the project, and while I loved giving them a hard time, they were exhausted! The directions are not easy to follow and have no words, just 3 or 4 diagrams. Once it was put together, the front looks really sharp, the inside of draws and cabinets are unfinished wood however, so not very pretty on the inside. The back is not finished at all. It is very ugly actually...just white wood and screws. This island would be perfect as a decorative piece against a wall. But i have to admit that I like the way it looks (from the front) so I am still using it.

4Like putting together a puzzzle with a blind fold on....

So I'm an aircraft mechanic. I read the previous review and thought two hours, two dudes,... Shouldn't take me more than three. Almost FOUR hours later I finally had the D@mn thing put together. My advise to anyone looking to get this is to evaluate your engineering capability. The instructions consist of 7 steps....7 STEPS.... on an item that has 23 weak wooden pieces, two large and strong, and a vast amount of screws and what nots to put the thing together. 7 steps that don't tell you little things like if you don't orient this board correctly then the backboard won't line up. Or if this board is upsidedown you won't know till your just about done and can't find the stupid holes to hang the door magnets!!! I spent more time eyes glued to the LAME picture in the instructions trying to figure out what I was looking at then I spent actually building it.I'm giving it four stars because I hate over inflated rating ("I love the camera but I didn't get it as fast as I wanted so I gave it one star...") and after the hassle it's pretty nice looking Although I will agree that the back looks mechanical and bland. We've already started looking at cloth to drape over the back.

3One girl. Three days. Blood, sweat and tears.
By S. Scott
Well, what can I say about this kitchen cart?I bought it because the kitchen in the house I just moved into has no room for anything and I thought an extra workspace with some storage would be great. Based on what I could see of it online, I liked the look of this cart for the great price.I did read the reviews that others had posted citing the difficulties they encountered while putting this cart together. I shrugged them off. I'm pretty good at building furniture and never put much stock in reviews that claim furniture is hard to put together. In this case, they were right and then some.It took me three days to put this thing together. Of course, I had to stop and wait for glue to dry. I had to stop for food and sleep. I had to stop so I could walk away from the monstrous pile on my floor, else risk beating it to splinters in a frustration-fueled rage. I loved it when I first took the parts out of the box. By the time I was done building it, I loved it less. The "instructions" are practically useless. The hardware and pieces of the actual cart are broken down into letters and numbers. There are a LOT of them. It took me 45 minutes just to inventory the hardware. The building guide consists of a few diagrams covered in a confusing web of lines (labeled with the corresponding letters and numbers) pointing this way and that. There are NO written instructions. As if that weren't bad enough, there are steps that are completely missing and I can only assume one is meant to intuit what to do via osmosis. At one point, I had to partially dismantle what had been done to accommodate one of these missing steps. Best of all, these instructions look like a copy of a copy of a copy. The ink is very faded in places which quickly becomes a pressing factor when trying to decipher the tiny, cramped lettered-and-numbered web.Something else mentioned by other reviewers is the way the back of the cart looks when finished. Simply, it's ugly; blank white particle board riddled with screws. I spray painted my screws white before putting them in to try and improve the overall look. It didn't help much. I keep my cart up against the wall so the back isn't visible.Pros:- The cart is attractive from the front once it is built.- The bread box. The bread box on the side of the cart is adorable and very useful. It's also one of the easier parts to construct.- The tea towel rod.- The cupboards and drawer are deep and roomy.- Mirror-finish hinges, towel rod, knobs and drawer pull. I was pleasantly surprised to find that these pieces were not brushed nickel as they appeared in the picture on Amazon.Cons:- The HORRIBLE instructions.- It is very hard to put together and takes an unreasonable amount of time.- Many of the bits of hardware I received were covered in rust.- It's fragile. The surface of the cart is VERY easily scratched.- The back of the cart is really ugly.Ultimately, I give this kitchen cart three stars because, after all is said and done, it looks pretty from the front and has given me a little extra room in my kitchen. A kitchen can be a violent place, in it's own way, and I was very disappointed with how easily the work surface on this cart gets scratched. If I could do it all again, I would definitely, 100%, without a doubt, buy a different kitchen cart. In my opinion, this one was much more trouble than the worth of the finished product. If you choose to buy this cart, be prepared to go to war. Do not underestimate the first-world nightmare you will be entering into to put it together. I only suggest you buy it if you are absolutely in love with the image of the finished product and are willing to fight to get it (and treat it with kid gloves).
