Catskill Craftsmen has become the nation's leading manufacturer of ready-to-assemble domestic hardwood kitchen islands, carts, and work-centers. Catskill Craftsmen manufactured items are made from naturally self-sustaining, non-endangered North American hardwoods, primarily Northern Yellow Birch. Lumber is purchased from area sawmills, then dried, manufactured, and packaged on site. All sawdust, shavings and waste materials generated during the manufacturing process is converted into wood pellet fuel, and used to heat homes. This Island is a conveniently sized super island featuring a butcher block top, knife rack, towel bar, drop leaf, large drawer, adjustable interior shelf, nickel plated hardware, locking caster wheels and an oil finish. The drop leaf adds ten inches of depth to this 38 inch wide island. The tops, legs, braces, drawer and doors are all made from Northeastern Hardwood. The side and back panels are made from warp-resistant, hardwood veneer which allows for more precise machining and eases the assembly process.

This took my husband, with occasional assistance from me, two days to assemble -- probably 6 or 7 hours total. It didn't seem like it could possibly take that long, and yet... He didn't complain since he got to use his new drill.The result though was beautiful, solid, and of exemplary quality.I have a nice sized kitchen for the area. I hesitated to put in a island because I like the roomy feeling when you enter into it, but I seriously needed more storage space and another preparation area. I debated what size I wanted and I chose this one, because of the leaf to make the top bigger when needed. I'm very pleased with this choice. I filled it with the standard items I use most, including a light-weight set of mixing bowls so I don't have to stand on tiptoe and wrench my back with the heavier sets. Measuring cups and spoons. Silicone muffin "tins." A hand mixer. New spice racks on top.When you use the leaf, it's very solid and you don't get the feeling it'll collapse and be like something out of a slapstick comedy. The wood is just beautiful, and the product description lets you know the wood was gathered responsibly and the sawdust and shavings were used to make pellet fuel.I suppose I could deduct a star from the rating for the assembly, but all the effort was toward a beautiful and useful piece of furniture that we'll use long after the pain of assembly is forgotten. Well, almost forgotten.I feel like by just adding this one piece I got a minor kitchen make-over.

Completely worth the money! Rolls easily out of the way when needed. Plenty of room inside it. I was able fit my pressure cooker, steamer, slow cooker, canning tools, magic bullet, George foreman grill, mandolin slicer, vegetable chopper, and all my canisters that hold sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, and flour inside the bottom cabinet area. Going to fill the top drawer with my favorite recipes. Solid built, and beautiful color I couldn't be happier with it.

I looked everywhere for a good quality, solid wood kitchen island that would fit my space. After reading several positive reviews I decided on the Catskill Craftsmen mid-size super island and I'm so glad that I did. It is such a great addition to my kitchen. I love the solid wood materials, it looks like it cost twice what I paid for it.The assembly did take me about 4 hours, and I'm a reasonably handy guy. But it's so well constructed that I'm okay with the amount of time invested. I love this product and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well made, good looking kitchen island
